What is DPI, exactly?

DPI (dots per inch) is a metadata value that tells printers how large to render each pixel on paper. Changing DPI does not change pixel data — only the print size it maps to.

Will this change my image quality?

No. Only the embedded DPI metadata is updated. The actual pixels, colors, and transparency are untouched, so quality is identical.
